The Revival Heritage Hub – Documenting and Saving Heritage in southern India

The Revival Heritage Hub (RHH) was started in 2013 with a group of students, led by Dr. Rajeeva Nrupathunga, a History lecturer in The Oxford Pre-University college. Our motto is “Voice to Save Heritage & Culture.”

Our operation has three branches: “Expedition,” “Research,” and “Awareness.” Since 2013 we have been actively researching Bangalore’s heritage and culture and have published two books. For our research the team was recognized as the “Youngest Research and Social Awareness Team” by Wonder Book.

More about what we do and why

The three branches of the RHH:
  1. Expedition: We visit places, festivals, museums, etc., and gather information through interviewing locals and authorities first hand along with photographs.
  2. Research: Later on the information we gather is cross-verified with scholars and records such as books, newspapers, articles, scriptures and so on.
  3. Awareness: The information is then shared with the public through various mean such as publishing books, articles in newspapers, conducting exhibitions in educational institutions, making documentaries and releasing them on social media, conducting heritage walks, programs and events of special occasions, etc.

How We Work

Highlights of our recent work:
  • We have worked at identifying and preserving a hero stone in Sarakki in November, 2016, and have identified an unrecorded inscription in Sarakki. Plans are being made for restoring the inscription.
  •  We are working on a book called Kalyanapuri Bhudrushya; the book showcases the heritage & culture of Bangalore.
  •  We have recently finished a documentary based on the place Sarakki, explaining its heritage, culture, social aspects, etc., that is soon to be released.
  •  We have also completed another documentary based on a festival that happens in a place called Kappadi near KR Nagar, Mysore district. This festival is also associated with the Mysore Kingdom.
  •  Recently, we have been successful in identifying another inscription on a hero stone in Sarakki in 2018. Plans are being made to safeguard the hero stone as well.
  • We have worked at identifying an inscription and a hero stone in Hebbal. Plans have been made to restore the artifacts.
