PART TWO.

What are you talking about?

The Bid2FightCovid Virtual Art Auction.

A fun live-stream event regardless of if you’re planning to purchase art works or not! Just come! Don’t be shy, you can actually be invisible if you like and just watch OR you can actively chat with all the others via a chatbox function 🙂

When? Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 6:00pm EST. Live event on www.artshoppingnetwork.com

But I am not an art collector.

I call myself a newbie art collector, so I know where you’re coming from.

The way I see life is that if something gives you joy on a frequent basis or even daily (if a work hangs in your private space for example) it is worth it to spend money on it.

Don’t think of it as you becoming this white-haired old art collector who endows his collection to a museum one day. Think of it more as breaking into a new world, people visiting you will comment, you will have stories to tell, you will be connected with the artists on a personal level. Honestly they are taking a risk (but for a good cause!) because I’d say most artists (all artists I know) prefer to know their work is in “good hands” — meaning with someone who actually cares about the work. This way you do more than just “flex and flip”, i.e. brag about owning the work for a while with the only goal in mind to sell it again soon.

Interestingly enough, if you compare the first catalog with the current one, some artists have since had really cool shows and have become better known, which means prices actually, which means prices actually went up. However, just remember it’s good etiquette – and also just the right thing to do – to communicate with the artists before trying to re-sell. It’s normal on the art market to sell, but I personally think you will enjoy the work much much more if you see something else in it, not just the hope that it will increase in its monetary worth.

“ECLIP$E” (2019), acrylic paint, spray paint on canvas, wrapped in archival pages of The Architectural Review (Vol. I-III, 1896-early 1900’s) by Hannibal Hopson. Starting bid: $300,-

OK let me $hop.

Cool. By the way: 40% of all proceeds will go to charity, 60% to the respective artist.

How can I find out more?

It’s already happening tomorrow evening, so first things first, go and RSVP here.

You can find the catalog here.

Check out the instagram account @artshoppingnetwork to find the participating artists (tagged in the respective posts.)

It was so much fun last time, to see how some works went crazy through the roof with many people bidding, but also just a cool way to get to know emerging as well as more established artists.
